Palestinian Activists to Celine Dion: Whenever, Wherever Music Covers Up War Crimes, It Is Just Wrong!

Members of VPalestine team urge Canadian singer Celine Dion to cancel her second show in "Israel" this summer.

A message to Celine Dion from the Palestinian activists

Dear Celine Dion,

We, Palestinian youths living in the occupied Palestinian territory and in exile, appeal to you to cancel your performance in Tel Aviv, scheduled for July 31, 2020. Performing in an apartheid state in defiance of the voices of the oppressed always undermines the popular struggle of the oppressed to end oppression. Doing so on the heels of a full-fledged Israeli massacre against Palestinians is a morally reprehensible whitewash of the crime.

Does it bother you to tell you that your performance may affect our attempts to reaffirm the inalienable right of us and other Palestinians to return to our homes and property from which we have been displaced and uprooted, and call for our return?

Major performances by international artists like you are regularly and openly endorsed by the Israeli occupation government, which uses them to art-wash Israel’s decades-old oppression of Palestinians. While Israeli occupation leaders will welcome your show, it will contribute to covering up Israel’s brutal and systematic attacks on Palestinian culture. “Israel” has shuttered Palestinian cinemas and theaters, banned cultural events, denied Palestinian artists travel permits, and detained others without charge.

We appeal to you to do no harm to our human rights and our struggle to achieve them.
