Occupied Jerusalem (In Palestine Today)- As Israeli forces continued to crash down on native Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem, Israeli far-right lawmakers made visits on Monday to several flashpoints in the Old City and the eastern part of Jerusalem.
The Israeli police had said it will permit a mass settlers’ raid, which celebrates the occupation of Jerusalem. The march is planned to pass through the Bab Al Amoud and the Muslim Quarter on the way to Al Buraq Wall.
Bezalel Smotrich, chairman of the Religious Zionism party, announced on Monday morning that he would be making his way to the eastern part of the Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah, which has stood at the center of recent Israeli attacks, on Monday afternoon.
Smotrich also called on police to shoot Palestinians who throw stones. He tweeted calling on police to use lethal force on Monday morning against Palestinians who threw stones at a settler, who deliberately rammed into a young Palestinian. An Israeli police officer had intervened and opened fire to protect the settler.
Itamar Ben-Gvir of the Kahanist Otzma Yehudit party, who was present outside the Mughrabi Bridge leading to the Temple Mount, also condemned the government’s decision to close access to the contested holy site.
Itamar Ben-Gvir of the Kahanist Otzma Yehudit party had set up a temporary office in Sheikh Jarrah, stirring tension. He left the next day, claiming that he had done so after Benjamin Netanyahu had agreed in return to maintain a heavy police presence in the Palestinian neighborhood until the end of Ramadan this week.
