Jordan (In Palestine Today)- Jordan’s King Abdullah II yesterday stressed the importance of translating the Gaza ceasefire into an extended truce and said there is no alternative to a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians, Petra news agency reported.
The king called for “stepping up Arab and international efforts to translate the ceasefire into an extended truce to push for a political solution that fulfils the legitimate rights of Palestinians”, the royal court wrote on Twitter.
He also directed “the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army to transfer patients [from Gaza] whose conditions require treatment in #Jordan to the Kingdom’s hospitals.”
Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and his Palestinian counterpart Riyad Al-Maliki yesterday called for intensifying international efforts to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.
This comes as Qatari Emir Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani urged the international community to work to end repeated Israeli aggressions against Palestines and Al-Aqsa Mosque.
More than 270 Palestinians, including 69 children, were killed during Israel’s 11-day bombing campaign against Gaza. A further 34,000 were displaced after their homes were destroyed or left unsafe for them to live in, UN Middle East envoy, Tor Wennesland, told an emergency meeting of the UN security council last week.
