Protest in UK calls to boycott Puma

London (In Palestine Today)- Hundreds of demonstrations were held throughout the United Kingdom on Saturday, calling to boycott Puma, a global sportswear manufacturer, for being a main sponsor of the Israel Football Association (IFA), which includes teams in Israel’s illegal settlements on occupied Palestinian land.

The demonstrators gathering in front of Puma stores in London, Brighton, Liverpool, Chester and other parts of the UK, chanted slogans that condemned Israeli apartheid in occupied Palestine.

The protests were called for by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC).

The IFA operates in illegal Israeli settlements on land stolen from Palestinians. Every settlement is a war crime under international law – pushing indigenous Palestinian families off their land, robbing natural resources, and denying Palestinians their right of movement.

By sponsoring the IFA, Puma is complicit in supporting these crimes, said the demonstrators.

As one of the world’s top athletic brands, Puma’s sponsorship brings international legitimacy to the IFA and helps sustain the infrastructure of illegal Israeli settlements. Puma’s exclusive licensee in Israel, Delta Galil Industries, was also listed by the UN as a company operating in illegal settlements.

More than 200 Palestinian teams have called on Puma to end its support of Israel’s military occupation by terminating its sponsorship deal with the IFA.

“Boycott Puma until they end their sponsorship of Israeli Apartheid,” called the demonstrators.
