Antony Blinken condemns “Israel’s” attack on Shireen Abu Akleh funeral

Jerusalem (In Palestine Today)-US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has issued a statement condemning Israeli occupation forces for their attack on the funeral procession of Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh who was assassinated by an Israeli sniper this week in Al-Quds.

Blinken’s statement on his official Twitter account read: “We are deeply troubled by the images of Israeli police intruding into the funeral procession of Palestinian American Shireen Abu Akleh.”

“Every family deserves to lay their loved ones to rest in a dignified and unimpeded manner,” it added.

Blinken’s brief statement came after live television captured Israeli occupation forces brutally storming Abu Akleh’s funeral procession.

On its account, Al Mayadeen correspondent in occupied Al-Quds reported on a military crackdown and harassment of mourners during the funeral of Palestinian journalist and martyr Shireen Abu Akleh near the besieged French hospital.

When large crowds of Palestinians started walking toward the gates of the hospital, Israeli police officers burst through the courtyard gates and charged at the crowd, ostensibly to prevent them from moving the coffin by car. Some beat and kicked pallbearers with batons.

At one point, the group carrying her coffin were backed up against a wall and almost dropped the casket, recovering it just as stun grenades detonated on one end.

On Wednesday morning, the Palestinian 4inistry of Health announced the martyrdom of Al Jazeera journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh, whom the Israeli occupation forces shot in the head with a live bullet. The Israeli occupation aggressed against Jenin refugee camp, north West Bank, at a time when journalists covered the storming of the camp.

Abu Akleh, according to the ministry, was hit by an explosive bullet in the head before being rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

According to video footage of her assassination, Abu Akleh, 51, was wearing a helmet and body armor clearly labeled “press” when she was shot.
