RAMALLAH, (PIC)- Tension prevailed in Ofer Prison after Israeli guards violently stormed Palestinian prisoners’ cells on Monday morning.
The Palestinian Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission said that heavily armed prison guards, accompanied by assault dogs, at dawn raided rooms 5 and 12 of section 16 and attacked a number of Palestinian detainees held there.
After the prisoners confronted the attack, the Israel Prison Service punished three prisoners by placing two of them in solitary confinement and transferring the third to another jail.
The Palestinian prisoners protested the attack by bashing the doors and rejecting their breakfast.
There are about 4,700 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails and subjected to daily raids, psychological and physical torture, arbitrary transfers, and deliberate medical neglect.
Among them are 541 serving life sentences, 400 imprisoned without charge or trial, and 700 suffering from serious health problems, 10 of whom are cancer patients.
